Practical tips for your stay:
- Save emergency numbers and key contacts on your phone and on paper (SAMU, firefighters, police, town hall, hospital)
- Locate and mark on a map the nearest hospitals, on-call pharmacies, and police stations to your accommodation
- Always keep a means of payment (card + cash) with you, as some taxis or services do not accept cards
- Keep a paper or digital copy of your important documents (passport, ID, health/travel insurance)
- Use Google Maps or the “Guadeloupe Itinerary” app to quickly locate services and shops
- Ask about on-call pharmacies and keep their number handy
- Take a battery backup for your phone when hiking or for trips outside towns
- For taxis: note the central’s number and driver’s name before departure
- For foreign tourists: remember the address and phone number of your consulate or embassy
- In the event of theft, loss or incident, contact the police or town hall of the locality immediately
- Check the local weather regularly and find out about natural risks (volcanoes, cyclones)
- Activate the location sharing service on your smartphone when hiking or exploring alone
- Ask your host or the tourism office for a PDF list of “traveler special” local contacts
- Keep animal emergency medical numbers handy if you travel with a pet
- For sea trips: book in advance with shipping companies and ask for the marine weather
- In case of psychological emergency: keep the contact of a listening center or local psychologist (info available at the town hall or tourism office)
