Conférence – L’Habitation Belle-Allée à Saint-François : histoire et archéologie

As part of European Heritage Days, Fort Delgrès is hosting a lecture on the Belle-Allée Plantation in Saint-François, a former sugar plantation whose history spans from the late 17th to the 19th century. Following an archaeological assessment conducted in 2017 and subsequent excavations, several areas of this vast plantation have been studied. The lecture will present, in particular, the initial findings from research conducted on the residential quarter and the servants’ quarters, shedding new light on the site’s organization and history. The event will be led by Alexandre Coulaud, an archaeologist and head of archaeological research at Inrap.
