Les Noctambules – Alfred Alexandre
In *Les Noctambules*, Martinican author Alfred Alexandre explores the legacy of slavery and colonization, as well as the power dynamics that may persist in their wake. The play brings together stories that intertwine memory, freedom, loneliness, and the search for meaning. In *Le Patron*, a bar owner and a bouncer find themselves alone in a deserted bar following the owner’s mysterious disappearance. Amid the waiting and uncertainty, their relationship brings to the surface deeper questions about love, power, and freedom once the figure who embodied authority is no longer there. Au bout du pays, meanwhile, focuses the action on a solitary ship mechanic, played by Serge Abatucci. Through his story and the Caribbean figure of Ti-mons, the narrative explores the perpetuation of power dynamics and the temptation, for those who have been subjugated, to take the master’s place in turn.
