Requiem pour Vénus – Compagnie Difé Kako

With *Requiem for Venus*, choreographer Chantal Loïal and the Difé Kako Company present a production inspired by the story of Sarah Baartman, a South African woman who was exhibited in Europe in the 19th century because of her physical appearance. Following her 2011 solo piece *On t'appelle Vénus*, Chantal Loïal revisits this story through a collective work blending dance, song, and live music. African dance and contemporary choreography come together, while Negro spirituals and popular Afro-descendant repertoires accompany the performers. Beyond the story of Sarah Baartman, *Requiem pour Vénus* pays tribute to Black women and questions the way their bodies have been viewed throughout history. A work where memory, movement, and transmission come together.
