Chapasosiré – À la découverte du boulagyèl

With *Chapasosiré*, Jean-Christophe Maillard and TiMalo continue their exploration of *boulagyèl*, a vocal practice characteristic of *gwoka* that relies on throat sounds, breath control, and onomatopoeic sounds associated with the *ka* drum. The result of research conducted with Guadeloupean artists and drawing on Caribbean and West African sound archives, the performance brings this often-overlooked practice to center stage. Song, speech, silence, and physical expression alternate to reveal its various dimensions. This new phase builds on a residency conducted in 2026 and invites the audience to pay special attention to the voices, rhythms, and sounds that make up this unique component of Guadeloupe’s musical heritage.
