Femmes des Caraïbes – Queen Nanny et Solitude

L’Artchipel – Guadeloupe’s National Theater presents “Women of the Caribbean,” the first installment of a major theatrical project dedicated to Caribbean heroines and the voices of women long overlooked in official histories. This first installment honors two major figures of resistance: Queen Nanny, a Maroon leader who became a national heroine of Jamaica, and Solitude, a Guadeloupean activist who fought against the reinstatement of slavery. Through their stories, the production explores struggles, the passing down of traditions, freedom, and the essential role of women in the history of Caribbean peoples. Drawing in particular on texts by Ava-Gail Gardiner and Laurence Joseph, the production brings together Jamaica, France, and Guadeloupe in a theatrical project designed to resonate with current generations and bring this heritage to life.
